Mireya’s First Cigarettes After Quitting

This is Mireya’s first cigarette after eight months without smoking. She quit smoking as part of a pact with her partner when they started spending more time together. Although she managed to stay smoke-free, she slipped once last month and shared a hand-rolled cigarette with a girl friend. The idea of smoking a ‘real’ cigarette lingered in her mind for days. Interlude – Cravings after eight months without smoking

This interlude shows the four minutes leading up to her first cigarette. During this time, Mireya’s cravings slowly surface and intensify, fueled by the excitement of what’s about to unfold. Lying on the bed, she plays with the cigarette pack in her hands, feeling its pull as she reminisces about her smoking days.

She recounts stories from her smoking past in her sweet, melodic voice, allowing her desire to relive the experience to grow with every word.

Scene 1 – Trembling fingers

As she lights the cigarette, Mireya takes drag after drag, each time inhaling more deeply. Her French inhales starting off imperfect due to lack of practice but quickly regaining their former grace.

Within minutes, her fingers start trembling from the nicotine rush. She stares at her reflection in a mirror (not shown on screen), mesmerized by the sight of herself smoking again. A sly smile escapes as she finishes the cigarette in three minutes in an uninterrupted shot.

Afterwards, while sipping an espresso, she says with a demanding tone: “I could smoke another one… I need another one,”. With an ironic smile, she quickly lights up her next cigarette. During the second cigarette, she satisfies her cravings with long holds, holding the smoke for up to eight seconds.

In the second scene, Mireya chain smokes two cigarettes. This time, she is standing and dancing with headphones on—a setup she proposed herself. Her sensuality emerges effortlessly as she dances, genuinely enjoying each cigarette.

Having quit smoking, Mireya’s once-slim figure has transformed into voluptuous curves, gaining some weight over the months. With long smoke holds and large cone-shaped exhales, she fully lets go, surrendering to the nostalgic breeze of her smoking past.
